Last Friday, the core members of our “On the Same Page” Book Club gathered for the first meeting for the season, and when deciding what to read for the November session, an exciting idea landed on the table: How about this time, instead of read, WE WRITE?? A few “It sounds exciting, but…”s later, it was decided: we were super-hyped to give novel writing a shot!
So, we invite all of you, passionate readers, relentless dreamers, wannabe writers, and published authors, to come aboard on an adventure of “don’t know where to start” and “don’t know what I’m doing”, to “I’m kind of enjoying this”, “I’m so glad I did this” and “really proud of myself”, through pages torn, words vomited, lines erased, scenes mixed up, to thoughts untangled and stories uncovered.
We have 30 days to do it!
Ideally, you should have written 50,000 words by the end of November. But hey, we get it if it’s too much. We welcome any completed, or soon-to-be-finished, literary work. Stories, journals, fairytales, plays - everything is a go!
When you are ready, email your work to email@example.com, with your name, age, and pen name - if you wish to remain anonymous. We will publish your work on our website, and you can opt into our Book Club, where we will talk about the novels written by Club members, the experience, the struggle and the delight of writing.
To help you get started, here is the link to the official National Novel Writing Month page. Here you can mark yourself on the world map, read motivational pep-talks and tips by famous authors, connect with other writers, and use sponsor discounts. If you browse through the sponsors list, you will also find FREE WRITING CLASSES to get you going (check out the ‘Inspiration’ menu for ‘Sponsor offers’). We liked the CreativeLive! ones.
If you’ve read all the way down here, it means you are considering the idea. Don’t wait for your excitement to cool off - commit to writing a novel in the next 30 days, and let us know you’re in! We’ll connect you to other members, invite you to our Book Club and help you share your work with our online community.
What are you waiting for? Getting started can be as easy as “Once upon a time…”
